FBME CTU STUDENTS UNDERTAKE PROFESSIONAL TRAINING WITH GERMAN EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES
Two students from the Emergency and Civil Protection Planning study programme at the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague (FBME CTU), who are also graduates of the Paramedicine programme, completed a professional internship with the Bavarian Red Cross at an Emergency Medical Service station in Furth im Wald, Germany, during May.
During the internship, the students were accommodated in a Bavarian Red Cross facility near the station and participated in the daily operations of an advanced life support ambulance crew. Each student completed twelve-hour shifts from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. under the supervision of experienced German colleagues.
The internship provided valuable insight into the organization of pre-hospital emergency care in Germany, the functioning of the Bavarian emergency medical service system, and the day-to-day work of ambulance crews. The students also gained practical experience delivering healthcare within a different system and had the opportunity to compare procedures used in the Czech Republic and Germany.
This activity forms part of the long-term cooperation between FBME CTU and the Bavarian Red Cross. It builds on previous joint professional events, exchange visits, and educational activities organized in both the Czech Republic and Germany. Prior to the launch of the student internships, Ing. Matyáš Bernard from the Department of Healthcare Disciplines and Population Protection at FBME CTU personally explored opportunities for cooperation and gained first-hand experience with the Bavarian system by completing several shifts with Bavarian ambulance crews during February and March 2026.
The partnership between FBME CTU and the Bavarian Red Cross will continue in the future. Additional internships for FBME students with Bavarian emergency medical service providers are currently being prepared, alongside further professional and educational activities for German paramedics and students in the Czech Republic.
