BACHELOR’S / MASTER’S (FINAL) THESES in the academic year 2025/2026

1. Selection of the Final Thesis Topic

  • Students of the BMT study programme: until 31 January 2026 (linked to the semestral  project)
  • Students of the BME study programme: from 22 September 2025 to 11 January 2026
  • Output: Final Thesis Assignment – expression of the student’s agreement with the assignment in KOS (the student will receive an email from noreply@cvut.cz with the subject “Invitation to accept the assignment”).

2. Requirements and Submission of the Final Thesis

  • The rules also apply to revised, supplemented, or new final theses from unsuccessful Final State Examinations (FSE) in the academic year 2024/2025.
  • Regular submission deadline for FSE held in June: 13 May 2026, by midnight – electronic version.
  • Resit submission deadline for FSE held in September: 12 August 2026, by midnight – electronic version.
  • A condition for submission is an assessment granted in KOS for the final thesis; otherwise, the thesis cannot be submitted.
  • Electronic version (new from academic year 2025/2026): submitted to KOS (see instructions here) and to the PROJECTS database (see instructions here).
  • Printed version: 1 copy, double-sided printing, spiral binding; submitted to the secretary of the FSE committee on the day of FSE (the printed version must be an exact copy of the electronic version). After the defence, the printed copy is returned to the student.

Details for the electronic version:

  • Format for bachelor’s thesis: PDF, optionally an additional ZIP file for attachments (max. 1 GB)
  • Mandatory parts of the final thesis:
    • Final Thesis Assignment (downloaded from KOS in PDF format; see instructions here)
      • the assignment is inserted into the thesis as a simple copy – electronic signatures do not need to be visible
      • the validity of the assignment is limited to three subsequent semesters.
    • Declaration of Independent Work and Use of AI (downloaded from KOS; see instructions here; after prior confirmation by the student in KOS)
      • before confirming the declaration, the student must select the thesis language in KOS (procedure: tab “My Final Theses” – EDIT DATA).
      • if the student failed to defend the thesis and has to take the SFE resit: for the new submission, the student must again confirm the Declaration of Independent Work and Use of AI  in KOS and insert it into the final thesis.
  • Before submission, the following must be filled in KOS only (the PROJECTS database only receives uploads of the PDF file and ZIP attachments):
    • Abstract in the language of the thesis
    • Abstract in English
    • Keywords in the language of the thesis
    • Keywords in English
  • Attachments (videos, photographs, software, etc.) must be compressed to reduce the size of the ZIP file if they exceed the 1 GB limit.

3. Rescheduling the FSE Date

  • A request may be submitted to the Department of Student Affairs until 13 April 2026, including a description of a serious reason and the consent of the thesis supervisor (if the request concerns the final thesis) + the head of the department guaranteeing the study programme.

4. Assessment for the Final Thesis

  • Granted by the thesis supervisor (or the programme guarantor/head of the guaranteeing department in the absence of the supervisor).
  • The assessment must be recorded in KOS, otherwise the thesis cannot be submitted.

5. Language of the Final Thesis

  • Czech, Slovak, or English.
    • If the final thesis is written in English: the title page  (page), assignment , and declaration must be in English.
    • If the final thesis is written in Czech or Slovak: the title page (page), assignment and declaration must be in Czech.

6. Formal Requirements and Mandatory Parts of the Final Thesis

  • Margins: 25 mm
  • Length for bachelor’s theses: minimum 40 norm pages (number of pages from the Table of Contents to the List of Appendices; appendices are counted only if they contain relevant results directly related to the thesis topic).
  • Length for master’s theses: minimum 60 norm pages (number of pages from the Table of Contents to the List of Appendices; appendices are counted only if they contain relevant results directly related to the thesis topic).

7. Originality Check of the Final Thesis and Assessments

  • After submission to KOS and PROJECTS, an originality check is performed via the anti-plagiarism system THESES/iThenticate.
  • The result is shown in PROJECTS/KOS.
  • No later than 5 working days before the SFE date, the supervisor’s and external reviewer’s reviews are published in the PROJECTS database.
