FROM CTU RESEARCH TO A BIOMEDICAL SPIN-OFF: ONDŘEJ FIŠER PRESENTED AT NEXT AI 2026 IN KOREA
Assoc. Prof. Ondřej Fišer, Ph.D., from the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU), participated as an invited speaker at the international NEXT AI 2026 forum in Wonju, South Korea. In his invited talk, he presented the journey from academic research at CTU through the transfer of scientific know-how and the establishment of the technology spin-off Tonagena to the development of a data-driven electroporation platform.
The international forum NEXT AI 2026 – Medical Meets Physical AI took place on 17 September 2026, bringing together experts in artificial intelligence, biomedical technologies, healthcare, and industry. Tonagena, a technology spin-off of CTU, joined a program featuring representatives of major global technology companies, including NVIDIA, Supermicro, ZEISS, Acer Medical, Advantech, Qisda, and Unitree Robotics. Ondřej Fišer delivered a talk entitled From University Research to a Data-Driven Electroporation Platform: Turning Scientific Know-How into Biomedical Technology.
The presentation introduced electroporation as a concrete example of translating research results into practical applications. The technologies presented are rooted in long-term research into the interactions between electromagnetic fields and biological systems at the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering, CTU, as well as in multidisciplinary collaboration among engineers, biologists, and medical professionals. These activities subsequently led to the establishment of Tonagena, a technology spin-off of CTU, which continues to develop the TonaPulse® and TonaWell® electroporation technologies.
The presentation also outlined the next stage of development: integrating electrical pulse parameters, temperature measurements, numerical modelling, and biological responses into a structured data environment. The experimental data collected in this way are intended to enable the use of artificial intelligence methods for data analysis and to support the development of new electroporation protocols.
Following his presentation, Ondřej Fišer participated in an international panel discussion focused on practical AI applications, technology commercialization, and global collaboration. The forum also provided new contacts and opportunities for future cooperation with Korean research, healthcare, and technology partners.
The forum also attracted attention from South Korean media. Dong-A Ilbo, one of South Korea’s leading national news outlets, featured the electroporation technology presented by Ondřej Fišer and his participation in the international panel discussion in its coverage of the event.
